Molly Burch kicked off 2021 with “Emotion,” an elastic pop jam perfectly suited for hitting the roller disco. Taking a departure from her previous reverb tinged indie lounge aesthetic, Molly now embraces crystal clear modern pop production. Even though we’re still in the middle of winter (it’s snowing as I write this), it sounds like a breezy summer hit. Produced by and featuring Wild Nothing, funky bass and percussive synths drive the song to an infectious chorus. Regarding the track’s meaning, Burch posted on her Bandcamp page, “For me, the theme of the song is about feeling a spectrum of emotions, embracing that sensitivity, and using it as fuel to create something positive. ‘Emotion’ is a celebration of being alive.”
