Governor Extends State Disaster Declaration: On September 7, Greg Abbott extended the state disaster declaration in order to continue using state emergency funds for COVID-19 relief. Abbott asks all Texans “to take precautionary steps to protect [public] health by wearing a mask, social distancing, and sanitizing their hands.”
School Bus Hot Spots: AISD is expanding the hours during which school buses will provide free internet access to students as the school year begins. Buses will be available from 7:30am–4:30pm through Oct. 5, when the district currently plans to resume in-person classes. Free 24/7 Mental Health Hotline: Texas Health and Human Services operates a toll-free 24/7 COVID-19 Mental Health Support for all Texans at 833-986-1919. The support line offers trauma-informed support and psychological first aid to those experiencing stress and anxiety related to COVID-19.
City Provides Free PPE: Austin Public Health is distributing free facemasks, hand sanitizer, and educational material through September in areas with high COVID-19 positivity rates. This week, distributions take place: Thurs., 9/10, 1–3pm at The Pfield (1440 W. Pecan St., Pflugerville, TX 78660) and Sat., 9/12, 9–11am at Dailey Middle School (14000 Westall St., Austin, TX 78725)
