ADA Celebration Event on ROCO

ADAPT members talked about Attendant Care

On Monday, July 24 we were joined by Cathy Cranston, Ron Cranston and Danny Saenz of ADAPT/PACT to discuss the importance of Personal Attendants to people with disabilities and the work that the Personal Attendant Coalition of Texas has been doing. While we celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act and all it has done to make our society more accessible to people with disabilities, we must also still continue to fight for our rights. If someone with a disability does not have the proper help needed to get out of bed and out the door, how can that person go out into the world that has been opened up for them through the ADA? By denying people dignified means of support as an alternative to a nursing home or institution, are we denying them their rights under the ADA? These are the questions that came up in our conversation on the radio. If you missed it, you can hear an archive of the show on http://www.radiofreeamerica.com for up to 2 weeks. Or you can get in contact with ADAPT at their ADA Celebration on Saturday, July 29th from 3-6 pm at ADAPT HQ, 1640A East 2nd Street, Austin, TX 78702. The event will include fun for the whole family, refreshments, music, face painting, door prizes and more. RSVP to Cathy Cranston at 512-442-0252 or [email protected].
